Uncle Tom’s Game Corner #44

So punctual, so regular basis, I can’t believe it myself, almost. We see it as a challenge, as long as I do it continue that Trend. No later than mid-summer it will be unfortunately/hopefully (?) to do to much else to give. But we’ll see. Enough musing, let’s talk about interesting games!

Once upon a time… an Early-Access Special

Long, long time ago, people read a printed game magazine, and I was on such a work. Besides the mandatory Previews & Reviews, we tried to provide with a variety of Specials for variety. One of them – a Special about Early Access in General (at the time still a relative novelty), and several Early Access titles in Particular – came to me Recently in the sense, as to me Door Kickers: Action Squad for the first Time would be in London. Door Kickers, a tactical real-time strategy title, was in the Special presented and I was able to contact the developers to remember. As the game was in October 2014, then “done” and the Early Access left, were my Job and the magazine – at least in print form – but long story.

In my upper story remained in the game – I never played – but still under the tabs “Counter-Strike from above” and “Jagged Alliance in real time” filed. In the case of Door Kickers: Action Squad I thought therefore, first of all, a sequel – which is actually already in development, and even 2020 in the (Surprise!) Early Access start will. Action Squad is a Spin-off, which in many points of the template is different: Pixel instead of high-RES graphics, camera from the side instead of top and Arcade Action, where else simulated strategy and tactics in the first place.

As a Mini-SWAT-Team – Mini-in the sense of alone or with a Coop Partner – it goes against gangsters, terrorists and hostage-takers through side-scrolling levels. Different classes bringing different weapons, equipment, items and special abilities. New spaces are deep shadows, to give the names of the doors entrance. Usually a hail of bullets awaits us on the other side, a couple of Lunatics throw themselves but also with melee weapons on us, or wearing an explosive belt. Simply stated, the correct solution is to shoot is still not always – in the case of longer bursts of fire, the accuracy suffers tremendously and you don’t want to meet neither explosives nor any of the hostages unintentionally.

A lot of campaign Levels samst built-in Zombie Mod, the believe the only possibility of classes and, not least, Workshop support, deliver a lot of variety. However, I would strongly recommend to find yourself a Coop Partner for this game. Alone it is quite fast really, really difficult, and it’s the most fun second definitely.

It runs in the family

The pixel graphics may well belong to my prey schema, I play but also very much different. Both Gears Tactics, as well as Deliver us the Moon I had last time, my fun. After the colleagues have already dealt extensively with both, and I all points to agree with you and completely honest in fasting, absolutely, there is instead a Pixel masterpiece as the second not-so-secret insider’s tip for this month!

Children of Morta , a Rogue-lite Action-RPG… Yes, I’m still here. Anyone who has at least read occasional articles by me knows that I can start with the titles, where Rogue and/or Souls – Like (or-Lite) belong to the content description, usually little. I like challenge in Games, but I’m mostly with you, because I experience an interesting story, and generally entertain want to be. Inhaltsarm procedurally generated Endless Level, Perma-Death and the absurd serious opponents for me are rather precursors of a self-torture. But to each His own, and should not also not to say that there are titles in this direction, which I like anyway **can.

Children of Morta manages this balancing act thanks to some narrative and game play of technical “Tricks”. First of all, it is a pretty classic Dungeon Crawler, which, however, with its beautiful pixel optics bribe – if you can find such a style, as I do, a little. May we play as a member of the family Bergson – experienced monster hunter in the x-th Generation, the disengagement when the is threatened of them protected by magical mountain of dark powers. Almost all of the members of the family can be in various surface and underground Dungeons, and either replace a class system. Father John refuels with sword and shield, daughter Linda is a masterful Archer, the youngest son, Kevin prefers daggers and attacks from the shadows, etc., etc., As a Dungeon Crawler, the game offers solid, standard fare and, as a Rogue-lite almost, you die … often. So how has the game to bypass my low frustration tolerance?

The following things makes Children of Morta just as good or even better than other, similar titles: Many of the found and/or purchased Upgrades are permanent, and time is always stronger and comes with rather poor skill more and more. We know from titles such as Dead Cells, the game goes a few steps further. Each of the family members increase in Level, this progress is never lost – unlock automatically, passive skills, from which their members benefit. To regularly switch the character is encouraged and rewarded and is more likely to leave its comfort zone and also other characters and in – game way to give it a Chance.

And last but not least, the (families)in the story itself. You can’t be in the game, almost evil, if you, once again, the Temporal bless. Almost always waits for the “home” – we return to between missions, always in the property of the family – namely, a small story on us. After we have learned something about the everyday joys & Concerns of the family clan, is gone, the frustration of their own failure almost, and we plunge once motivated us in the battle…

Back to … what actually?

A month of rum, and very, very slowly we return to a certain normality. Some of you may nervous in this context, the concept of the so-called “new” normality is weird, but from my point of view, this is neither a political Statement nor Exaggeration: It is (unfortunately) just a fact that the past few weeks, and soon months have changed a lot and still will change.

What, how, how long, for Good or Bad, etc., will only show the time. Also, whether we want to accept as a society and/or as Individual(r) the Amendments (part)//want to, it is not foreseeable, or in decision-making. But enough musing, it still applies to do many things, discover interesting games, and – very important – just to live!

Until next time
