Ubisoft Event: Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece

In the framework of the Ubisoft Events in Berlin could I have a look at the 10. September 2019 published Discovery Tour mode of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey throw. The doctrinal discovery mode had, for the first time his big appearance in the previous series and the way he managed to explore ancient Egypt and learn in special tours about the history of this era. Now you can get to listen to ancient Greece, without the fights, travel, and many historical Details.

Us more about the development of the Discovery Tour is to tell, was the Franchise’s historian, Maxime Durand present at the discovery of the mode of the predecessor has worked. Before Discovery tours, you could read additional historical Information, buildings, or important people, in the Animus Database. From this, the discovery mode was developed in order to give the players more information about the different eras. Maxime gave us a rough insight into the development of the Assassin’s Creed series, and the Discovery modes.

The old, old story

For the creation of the game world is Search the A and O. in addition to historians will also with the Community managers worked together, such as, for example, in the case of Assassin’s Creed III, the indigenous factor is historically accurate to portray. Even if the history of the various age is important, so Ubisoft is taking a little bit of free space, which relate to certain representations. So would the real locations from Origins to far away from each other, as the one from the top of the pyramids, the bath house in Alexandria to see, but for the orientation of the player is important. Certain landscape features have been changed a little to make the places more atmosphere and emotions.

The great success of the Discovery Tour of Assassin’s Creed: Origins surpassed the expectations of the developers teams. Actually, for a small target group designed, independent of the mode, and is even used in classrooms. Yes, children have the option of using video games to Learn new things. So I would have had such a history lesson, I would probably have become a historian. In addition, was crowned the mode with the Best Learning Game Award, the teachers will be distributed, and a People’s Choice Award. In museums, the interest great and so were the pictures of Origins used during the Queen of Egypt Exhibition projected on the wall were.

The good old Markos still has plenty of stories to tell and it stands as one of the tour guides available.

Immerse yourself in the Discovery Mode

The game world of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey can be either to foot or horse travel. The total of 30 guided tours in 5 different classes, so you can, for example, more about gods and religions to learn. As a tour guide, and 5 different people from the game will be available to you. So you have the opportunity to know you, Markos more about acrocorinth. You can start the discovery tours by either the direct Call in the menu, in the Timeline, or a direct arrival. Then you need to just speak to your Guide and you’re ready to go.

A beam of light on the floor points you to the Information. There’s a little Video of exciting historical information can be told to start arrived. You’ve reached the end of the Tour, you can ask your learned Knowledge with a little Quiz, to the test. The different tours last between 10 and 20 minutes, and by Completing these, can you unlock different avatars and mounts free. In total, there are 35 unlockable characters in whose skin you for the tours slip can and 15 reitbare sub-sets. The tours were on the whole informative and fun, especially the Answer to the questions with wrong answers, provided the one or other joke. And I’ve actually learned in a fun way, new things about ancient Greece.

Bonus: Franchise historian, Maxime Durand has extra a bit of time for a short interview, we are of course not deprived of want!

What has you inspired on the Discovery Tour?

MD: passion. Quite simple. *laughs*

You hear, when you hear to talk to you. This is fantastic.

MD: I was not alone at Ubisoft in the Team, but since I 2010, Assassin’s Creed added, ‘ve encountered, I had this idea, something else to make. In addition to the game. After the Release of Assassin’s Creed: Unity set in the French Revolution, we realized quickly that the passion of the Community. Teachers, professors – history has piqued the interest. And we thought we can do more, as there is in Assassin’s Creed, we could create a new experience. So, we’ve spent years working on the drafting of this experience have talked with professors and teachers that have video game conferences – well attended conferences – in order to develop the best possible experience. And here we are now, in the second Discovery Tour and we are very proud of it!

What is your personal favorite tour, and who is your favorite guide?

MD: My favorite guide is Markos, absolutely. ** But just like any other Guide or Tour, it is because he embodies the Tour. laughs I think one of my favorite tours of the Olympic games. Because of the Olympics, because it is a wonderful attraction And it relates to us in the present, because the Olympic games exist today, in a different Form, and I think we learn very much. We see very nice monuments, important beautiful monuments, and we also learn that the Olympic competitions were religious games at the time, and have a means of Population much. So, this is the Tour which I actually prefer.

You could imagine to create a stand-alone Discovery fashion game? Maybe a completely new Setting that is only used for Learning?

MD: So the way that we the Discovery Tour, designed to have, is that we have the game world of Assassin’s Creed used to have. We were a small Team, maybe 25 full-time developers and many other people who have helped from the Main Assassin’s Creed Team, but we could not create a complete environment, as we do in Assassin’s Creed. But maybe we can use the Discovery mode for other things. Why is there no sociology or technology, I would like to see a Discovery Mode in Ubisoft’s Watchdogs.

And finally: What’s your favorite part in the development of the Discovery mode? Was there anything that particularly stood out that you had the most fun?

MD: Everything is fun and frustrating at the same time. Because it is an iteration process. But the best Part for me is when I go to a school, or a Museum, or I mean see play Mom the Discovery Tour and I can see their faces, so their faces when they play in the Discovery Mode, the the best Part is.

Thanks for the short interview!
