Studies on the opinion of companies on blockchain technology are abundant. But what do normal consumers think about digital developments? The electronica Trend Index asked for consumer opinions on the topic of safety and blockchain. The special survey “Blockchain technology” was directed only at German participants.
German consumers see potential for bank replacement
The client for the second edition of the electronica Trend Index was again “electronica”. This is the conference for electronics and at the same time the world’s leading trade fair for the industry. The opinion pollsters have once again asked 1,000 German consumers for answers in a representative survey entitled “Blockchain Technology”. Furthermore, in June 2018, the same number of people from China, the USA, France, Italy, Japan and Great Britain took part in the overarching survey – the electronica trend Index 2018. The special online survey revealed various interesting details on the evaluation of the blockchain by German consumers. Among other things, 51 percent of the survey participants stated that they assume that classic banking services and central online services such as Google and others will be completely replaced by innovative networks based on block chains. The interviewees can therefore imagine paying for future purchases with their digital capital from a Bitcoin Wallet.
Better starting position for privacy is expected
It is also interesting to note that 57 percent of the citizens surveyed consider the blockchain to be an important data protection instrument that could give users a better position for the operators of online platforms. Especially with regard to the DSGVO data protection regulation of the European Union, respondents hope for better conditions through the use of blockchain systems. More than one in two citizens expects forgery-proof transaction offers for their own virtual identity on the Internet for the future. Last but not least, consumers in Germany expect the new technologies to be easy to use and comparable to today’s apps for mobile devices. This in turn could mean that more and more German Wallets will be created soon.
Experts see many opportunities to optimize delivery processes, not least in the logistics sector. electronica 2018 opens its doors in Munich between 13 and 16 November. More than 3,000 exhibitors will be present this year.
