Movie review: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

In the case of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, is a children’s book series of the author Alvin Schwartz, which, thanks to the disturbing illustrations by Stephen Gammell cult status on the Internet reached. The work collects in a total of three volumes of short stories, poems and songs, which were as tall tales part of American camp-fire culture. This collection forms the basis for the eponymous Film. Produced by Guilliermo del Toro and directed by Norwegian André Øvredal, the project has the Potential for soothing showers. I was not disappointed, but one should not forget that it is the film adaptation of a children’s book.

Content

1968. The young Stella (Zoe Colletti) it has not been easy. When she was a small child, let your mother and your father in the lurch. Even years later, tormenting the Teenager, therefore, feelings of guilt, because she thinks she’s the reason why her mother has left the family. To not drown in grief, dreams Stella from a life as a writer. As you and your friends, to Halloween, to be bullied by a group of drunken semi-strong, fled the troupe in an abandoned mansion. In the process, they stumble across a mysterious book. The author of this work, Sarah Bellow, shrouded in eerie legends: the mad woman was a witch! And the blood of the children killed, the ink with which they wrote their stories. Yet you don’t know that the book does not need any author, a long time know what it is to fear the children and is trying to get the ghoulish protagonists of his stories in the real world.

Criticism

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a horror film for the whole family. Sounds weird, but it is so. Because, strictly considered, is a little morbidere Version of the film goosebumps2015 with Jack Black in the lead role to the movie theater. Its plot revolved around a book, whose stories were brought to life. However, this is not a real point of criticism for me, because Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark in its entirety but in a different and much compromise is, without ever really brutal or blood to show. As mentioned in my introduction, is the template for a children’s book. Those who hope that the body parts are flying through the area and the juice in Streams flows will be likely to be disappointed! Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is in the bottom of his heart, a look at fairy tales, the Horror from the unsettling Design of its monsters, and its narrative pulls. The stories from the books of law are woven into the dramaturgy of the story and come together in the screenplay to a large Whole, without losing your unique selling proposition. Friends of the books will be in the Film, among other things, the short stories The Big Toe, The Haunted House, The Red Spot , and What do you come for? again know.

Dramaturgical the Norwegian André Øvredal is doing all the work. Connoisseurs of the genre should not be of this man is unknown. He staged already , The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Also one of my personal favorites was created under his supervision: the Troll hunter. In this small gem of a Film, the Found Footage Genre to the Nordic sagas and fairy tales. A Mix works better than it should be, therefore, a clear recommendation from my side. But back to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark! The experience he has gained with the two previous films, the Director skillfully in his latest work. Throughout, it creates a pleasantly eerie mood, which often find me at Tales of the Crypt reminded. The cast around Zoe Coletti is very personable, and makes the Bank a good Job. And you have to commend the Film for its production budget of just under 25. Million US Dollar looks very high quality.

CONCLUSION

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has me actually very well-liked. Yes, he is for the Genre a bit tame, and definitely for an audience with zarterem mind, like mine, designed to be white but the spirit of the template is optimal to capture. Added: I me the creeps, in places, somewhat. This is due to the funky Design of the Monster, but never quite as disturbing look like their drawn counterparts in the books. Also I liked how the script added the individual stories to form a homogeneous Whole. The Story itself works well and is never boring. Unfortunately, every Gag was sitting not always, and the love story the way of doing something, since it supports many clichés, but these are trifles which do not detract from the fun. So who fancy a more gentle horror tale that can, with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark nothing wrong.
