Movie Review: Jojo Rabbit

The new Zealander Taika Waititi is a film Director who has earned the respect of the industry. After the wonderful horror Comedy, 5 rooms, kitchen, coffin , and its hugely successful entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Ragnarok, the nearly 45-year-old, all doors are open. Good for him and also for us, because his latest work, Jojo Rabbit, is a small masterpiece.

CONTENT

The 10-year-old Jojo (actually John) live with his mother in a German city towards the end of the 2. World war. He meets with his best friend website, is participating with great enthusiasm in group activities and has an imaginary friend. To a normal Boy.

However, the group is the Hitler youth, and his imaginary friend, nobody is less a person than Adolf personally. Quite to the chagrin of his mother, because when the child pushes secular fanaticism of her son, to little enthusiasm. Quite the contrary, it is a convinced opponent of the Nazi regime. When Jojo finds out that she’s hiding in the attic of her house a Jewish girl, a device for the little man in the world out of joint, because all of a sudden he has to be so fond of the world seriously.

CRITICISM

This premise reads somewhat weird, on the Essential you is reduced but not really new. The misguided Protagonist, is considering a change in life circumstances and encounters, his views and principles, and for the better people, is not exactly a new invention. And if you absolutely want to, you can Jojo Rabbit for sure reduce, but it is Essentially the story that the Film tells. However, it would be him by far not meet.

Because in the core we have here with a point and a route, way, bitter, angry and Social-to do Satire. The course is directed primarily against the blind fanaticism of the time, however, it has caught much to often discover Parallels to the current political and social Situation. This is probably one of the reasons why, despite the depressing subject matter, the remains Laugh at raw Jokes, not stuck in the throat…even if we are haunted then the bad Conscience.

Another reason why the evil Humor works, is probably the fact, to convert it to managed Waititi the fine line between realism and absurdity. The characters are a bit stereotypical and weird to be real, the story is just a touch too unlikely to work to life. So you have to laugh as a spectator, never the feeling of being about actual people and its suffering. And yet it all remains the ground close enough to make it clear: From the air, the everything is used, only floral retold.

Can work as a balancing act, of course only with the right cast, and puts on a brilliant performance here. Above all, the novel, Griffin Davis as Jojo, delivering a for his age is an impressive performance, calls him his role but a lot of things. Also worth mentioning is Scarlett Johansson as jojo’s mother, as well as the always wonderful Sam Rockwell as the disillusioned leader of the local Hitler youth group, captain of Klenze the village. Waititi himself as a nervous, Adolf Hitler has a lot of fun in his role and has some of the best laughs on his side. Only Rebel Wilson is a little out of the frame, she seems to be mimes in every Film in which they are found, the same figure. The like your fit, but nice and slow, the question is whether she is still capable.

Technically there is nothing to Jojo Rabbit to suspend. A camera, which is always good for Surprises (and in some moments a little to Wes Anderson’s style is reminiscent without actually copying or exhaust), great Timing, thanks to a wonderful script and matching Editing, masterfully put together by the new Zealand all-rounder, not only for directing and supporting role, but also said the script is responsible. A special treat on the edge there is to hear in the Soundtrack. Well-known classics of legendary musicians such as the Beatles or David Bowie, but in the German versions (at the time, in fact, of the particular people), which have become, over the decades, to rarities today, hardly anyone knows.

CONCLUSION

Bitter, herzzerr wrenchingly, deeply sad and hilarious. All of the encounters Jojo Rabbit , and actually works much better than one would think. It is thanks to this performance, especially the sensitivity of the Masterminds behind the camera, Taika Waititi, and a squad of highly motivated and extremely talented actors. Who is not afraid to laugh about the absurdity of human abysses and to have a port-a-potties in the neck, a jewel of a slightly different film, completely off the beaten track.
