First Look: Twin Mirror

The prodigal son who returns to his home village. A fascinating “Mind Palace”, which is the refuge of us and reminders. A mysterious Double what our decisions are influenced. Sounds fascinating? That’s about it! Because of this and much more, awaited us already in the first 20 minutes, the Psycho-Thriller Twin Mirror.

Welcome back to Basswood

In the context of a 20-minute Online Videos, I had the Chance, already in the first minutes of the Psycho-Thriller Twin Mirror – the new plant of the Life is Strange creators Dontnod – to experience . As a really huge Fan of the Life is Strange series Twin Mirror already in the run-up to be very interesting for me. The more I was looking forward to the start of the game itself already experience. In the Twin Mirror to slip, we are in the shoes of investigative reporter Sam Higgs. The 33-Year-old returns to the start in his home city of brass, wood, West Virginia.

Twin Mirror understands himself as an adventure game a real Cinematic feel to generate is to. It is oriented to Mystery-thrillers from Hollywood, and United according to own data in attractive graphics in the Cinematic style with the appropriate musical atmosphere. And Twin Mirror put in from the very first Minute, strong los. The adventure begins in a typical Life-is-Strange-style. In a first Cinematic we nozzles side-by-side with Sam on the Highway, accompanied by impressive images of the surrounding nature in the sunset. In the process, we are accompanied by engaging music, and the world moved on.

However, we notice here immediately: no, this is not Life is Strange: Twin Mirror is dark, is dark. Because while the engaging Road trip atmosphere, we dare to take a first glance in Sam’s car and not see that we are due to return to glad tidings in the home. An obituary of his best friend Nick graces the front passenger seat. Pain pills are in the bin. Sam has dark circles under the eyes. No, this is not a nice visit.

(You want to experience the first feeling of Roadtrips, too? Then swings you into the car or on the Couch, open breeze of the window to the cool summer, and the song of the soundtrack – “Sean Rowe – You Keep Coming me alive”. Thank me later!)

Sam returns to the people, he once allowed in the lurch. But what really happened?

Trapped in my own head – the only place that brings the truth

At the end of the car ride we arrive at a vantage point. This has can be found in Sam a strong emotional importance – as we are his internal monologue. A first reminder from Sam’s life shows us directly at the viewing platform arrived: his ex-girlfriend has just rejected to this place once with his request. And to him be heart broken. In these melancholy thoughts, we let the views of Basswood grinding… and suddenly find ourselves in a state of upheaval. A world made of mirror shards builds up in front of us – Sam’s “Mind Palace”. A retreat full of memories. Full of emotions, collected facts, important Know.

This memory Palace is a basic Feature in Twin Mirror there. The idea of this Training is not new, and goes back according to the developers, to ancient Greece. A private retreat is created to reflect experiences, and to consolidate Knowledge. This Twin Mirror with a completely own Touch. The graphical representation of the “Mind Palace” blew me away simply total. I didn’t expect this kind of game world, this almost broken-looking accumulation of Knowledge, so ever. Here it can be shown that the Look and Feel of the Life is Strange will Play very similar to the graphics, but since then again some of the milestones laid back has!

In Sam’s “Mind Palace” we can move freely. At the individual splitters arrived, we experience past memories. But this dreaminess also has its price. As we return from the Palace in real life and see that three hours have passed?! Because this logical, analytical way of thinking is taking its toll, and the main character is Sam time and space around him rum to forget. So much So that we missed the only reason for the return in the city – the funeral of the best friend!

Our “Mind Palace” makes us forget time and space.. and have already experienced an impressive cutting.

A second I… but with what intentions?

After this shocking realization, we also meet for the first time on a new, mysterious figure. A man which knows our thoughts. His face we don’t recognize – and a short time later he is gone again. We go in the city, at least after the funeral, still in the Bar look over. There is a little girl in the Parking lot waiting for us already. This recognizes Sam as the daughter of Nick and his deceased best friend.

We know that she was Sam’s goddaughter – and she confronts us directly with our Disappearance. We get the God-daughter to us in the car to lead her in a conversation that was as it seems already overdue. Why has left Sam in the lurch? Why he has never contacted, and in an already emotionally upsetting time? Yet these questions are not answered. I felt, however, Sam’s guilt, his remorse. The conversation was very one sided – and also a little suspicious. Who is his God-daughter after the death of the father alone? What happened really in Basswood?! Here Sam seems to be the first suspect.

But it’s not just Sam’s Disappearance impacted Nick’s daughter. Also the death of her father, still gnaws at the minds of the small 13-Year-old. She is not convinced that this was the accident, for which he in the Newspapers has been sold. You want us to help you, to determine in the death of Nick.

Here it happens suddenly: and the mysterious figure from the view-point is revealed again. The man shows himself to us as Sam’s alter Ego – his “Double”. This “Double” will accompany us from this point on, always in important situations, which require a decision. Because Life is Strange lives Twin Mirror of the decisions of the player. This can, according to Dontnod small impact, but all the historical strands of influence. And whenever we are standing in front of such a huge decision, trying to us our “Double” to present ourselves to other views, opinions, or facts. We can decide for a point of view – of the of Sam, or of Sam’s alter Ego.

Our “Double” is to us in all important decisions… but this is a curse or a blessing?

Like coming home – and yet completely different

At this point, this is the first insight ended, unfortunately. I’m incredibly excited to see what will be offer Twin Mirror everything in the Release. The “Mind Palace” looks promising and innovative. The “Double” had me from the first second on creeps. How can it be that only Sam can see of this alter-Ego? With his incredible mind about something, okay? We see the world, finally, through Sam’s eyes – but we can we trust what there is to see?

Already the few Material has managed to captivate me in a typical Life-is-Strange-style to the new, virtual world, and the hidden stories. The graphics are impressive, absolutely, the “Mind Palace” has me totally overwhelmed. The Soundtrack reflects the gloom and the Mystery, which meets us in brass, wood. The developers play with the music, and make us aware of it in important moments – such as the first conversation with Nick’s daughter – also with our minds alone.

But so captivating the first twenty minutes already, so the real battle has not yet begun to change in the Slightest. Because already the first night, which Sam in brass wood spends, to find a bloody end. And then it’s purely up to us to come to the truth on the track and to clarify important questions. How is Nick really dead? How will develop the relationship with his daughter? The Double has really good intentions, or is it more of a curse than a blessing? But most Important, I wonder now: WHO is Sam and why did he leave the city?!

I am very grateful for this Chance, first Gameplay of Twin Mirror experience to be able to. The own Hype increased as a result definitely tremendous! I can’t really expect to experience the whole story about investigative reporter Sam Higgs and to encounter the depths of his mind.

Twin Mirror to 2020 for PC, XBOX One and PlayStation 4 will appear. I’m curious, and am very much looking forward!
