Ethereum founder Buterin vs. Dr. Doom: Vitalik reveals how much ether he holds

The famous economist at New York University, Nouriel Roubini, also known as “Dr. Doom”, and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin have exchanged blows on Twitter. Roubini, who will be attending a US congressional hearing today, has already given his negative opinion on crypto currencies in the past. In the context of yesterday’s blow exchange with Vitalik Buterin, that revealed how much ether he possesses.

Nouriel Roubini, became particularly known because he accurately predicted the global financial crisis of 2008. In addition, he has long been a loud critic of crypto currencies. Among other things, he called Bitcoin “the mother of all bubbles” and said that a “crypto apocalypse” is coming. In a tweet on Sunday, he claimed Miner, Exchanges and Developers were centralized. Decentralization in crypto space is a myth for him. In truth, he said, the communist united party in North Korea was more decentralized. He called Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin a “dictator for life” in reference to the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Decentralization in crypto is a myth. It is a system more centralized than North Korea: miners are centralized, exchanges are centralized, developers are centralized dictators (Buterin is “dictator for life” ) & the Gini inequality coefficient of bitcoin is worse than North Korea

The Twitter exchange between Roubini and Vitalik Buterin only began yesterday, however, when Buterin predicted a new world economic crisis by 2021 at the latest. Buterin explained that the statement was not based on any analysis of the financial markets. He only wanted to be celebrated as the next “guru” who predicted a crisis. Roubini may have referred the tweet to himself and reacted. He wrote that Buterin should rather take care of his stuff about which he supposedly knows something. Buterin should rather take care of the proof-of-stake that he has been promising since 2013 and make the Ethereum blockchain scalable and secure.

Vitalik, just shut up & speak about stuff that you can claim u know a lil about. You have promising Proof of Stake since 2013 & we are still waiting for a system that is scalable, decentralized & secure. But that is impossible as your inconsistent trinity principle proves. https://t.co/2VtkG764wL

To Roubini’s proof-of-stake commentary, Buterin said that “the design is basically done and we are now in the development phase”.

And the design is basically done and we’re in the development stages now.

Roubini Buterin and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin eventually also referred to Buterin as criminals who became billionaires overnight because they have ether premined. The economist also accused the duo of stealing three 75% of the ETH supply. Buterin then revealed his ETH address and how much ether he actually possessed. The address given by Buterin contains “only” 365,003 ETH with a current value of 74 million dollars. In addition, Buterin also holds 100,000 dollars in OmiseGo (OMG).

I never personally held more than ~0.9% of all ETH, and my net worth never came close to $1b. So, I’m pretty sure there are no criminal laws against pre-mining.

We reported yesterday that the crypto currency market once again suffered a strong setback. The total market capitalization fell to below 205 billion dollars. The Ethereum price fell by over 9%. However, with regard to a comment on Twitter that Roubini was partly responsible for the price slide, he refused to boast about the development of the market. Nevertheless, a certain joy of damage could not be overlooked.

ETH fell 9% in the last day while BTC fell 5%. I don’t take any credit or blame for it & I have ZERO positions, long or short, on any crypto-currencies. Unlike the sleazy con men, self-interested scammers & price manipulators in crypto land I never talk my book as I have none https://t.co/VtAZISYfkg

Roubini will participate with Coin Center in a congress hearing on crypto currency today, Thursday. The Senate Committee for Banks, Housing and Urban Development will conduct the hearing on Thursday at 4 p.m. German time.
