Changing the name of PSN accounts

Sony Interactive Entertainment announces that PlayStation Network (PSN) users will soon be able to change their account names.

This feature, often requested by fans, will first be available in a test phase for those who have already registered as beta testers of previous system software, before it will be available to all PSN members in early 2019. Users can then change their PSN name as often as they like. After the first free renaming each further name change will cost 9.99 euros, for PlayStation Plus members 4.99 euros.

users can change their account name either in the Settings menu or on the Profile page on PlayStation 4. They have the option to show their old name together with the new one, so that they can be recognized by friends.

The renaming feature is compatible with all PS4 games released after April 1, 2018 and with most titles released before that date. Please note that not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support online ID changes and that certain games may occasionally experience problems or errors.

If for any reason problems occur after changing the ID, you can always return to the original ID at no additional cost (during the preview program this feature can only be used once). Resetting to an old ID solves most of the problems caused by the ID change. When this feature is officially launched, a list of compatible games released before April 1, 2018 will be posted on PlayStation.com as a reference to help with the decision.

The test phase is expected to end in November 2018. It is planned to integrate the name change for all users into PSN at the beginning of 2019.

Further information about this new feature can be found in the current post on the official PlayStation blog.
